Native Egyptian Decorative Mouthblown Glassware

What is there in the bubbles in the glass? A frozen breath of Pharaohs?
Hand glass blowing is a craft that was started thousands of years ago. Ancient Egyptians discovered glass blowing as a technique to create beautiful objects for royalty, as found in King Tut's tomb. Glass was utilised in amulets, beads and inlays (colourless glass inlays found imbedded in the throne of Tutankhamun). Apart from that, attempts were made to use glass in more ambitious projects, including that of vessels (solely by means of blowing).

Our Professional craftsmen/artisans use the same technique of mouth-blowing in manufacturing and forming glass to create beautiful collectible glass products. Our glass products are very much alive since they have part of the glass-blower inside the bubbles; that is his breath. These products are different than other mouth-blown pyrex glassware because the glass-blower breath remains in the bubbles.

Egyptian colored glass are well-known for naturally having airbubbles and still has the old-world charm of bubbles and swirls. Natural oxides are added to the melted glass to produce several different colors.

Items in this Category are made of native Egyptian Glass which is not heat-resistant. Each item is mouth-blown and hand-painted using the cold painting technique. They are not fired in a kiln or oven. Our artisans use non-toxic water-based paint for glass and crystal. Paints may be applied by brush, airbrush, etc. They also use relief outliners to lay down a fine line that feels raised to the touch.

Cleanup is with soapy water. Don't soak.
