This beautiful brown genuine leather jewelry box, measuring approximately 7 1/2 in. by 5 1/4 in. by 2 1/2 in., features the first of the Pharaohs, King Menes, hunting in a marsh, symbolizing Pharaoh's control over chaos and disorder (represented by birds flying off in many directions). Gold embossed with mother of pearl and black accenting, Pharaoh Menes is attended by his chief wife, Queen Berenib, who stands behind him, and his lesser wife, Neithhotep, who kneels between his legs, both carrying lotus flowers as a sign of creation and rebirth. A papyrus marsh stands in front of the scene with a benu bird guarding its nest.
