| The ancient legend says that the sun, Re's daughter, was angry at the Egyptians, turned into lioness and ran away to Nubia. A try was made to reconcile with her, then the lioness or the fire lioness, as they used to call it, turned into the Goddess cat Bastet which is always smiling. This worshipped cat was a lioness but in later ages her worshippers preferred to see her as a cat.
