Egyptian Mosaic Marquetry Wood Jewelry Boxes

Our Handmade Marquetry Jewelry Boxes are made by our highly-skilled marqueteurs using the most advanced inlay marquetry technique to recreate in marquetry an engraving of an Islamic motif.

The marquetry elements are individually cut from sheets of different kinds of precious wood. The individual pieces are assembled into an Islamic motif and maintained in position with a paper backing. These can then be stored ready for use.

The elements selected for the design are placed on top of the box lid and carefully marked out into the wood with a scriber. Using an inlay knife, which has a long handle mounted with a sharp blade, the marqueteur cuts deep into the surface along the scriber lines. The cut-out portions of the top surface of the box lid are then removed, to create cavities.
The marquetry elements are then inlaid into the cavities and fixed with glue.
